Student Leadership Opportunity
Dear Parents/Guardians,
As part of our Media program, students have the opportunity to apply for Student Director leadership positions. These roles are designed to go beyond simply producing videos—they give students real experience in leadership, communication, teamwork, responsibility, problem-solving, and project management.
Typically, I usually offer two leadership positions for seventh grade students. Here, they will apply like a real job (in the real world!) but also be held accountable if they were to receive the position. Because the program is run by students, my 8th grade student leaders review the applications, I approve (or deny) their decision, and then it is tossed to our program supervisor and building principal for approval. So please know, it's much more than Mr. K picking kids to be in charge. My goal is that at all points, ownership lands with the kids.
I wanted to give you a heads up before I sent it out. These are the links to the "job posting" that students will receive this evening.

These are important Career and Technical Education (CTE) skills that directly connect to expectations students will encounter in high school programs, college, careers, and the workplace. Student Directors are expected to lead by example, motivate and support their peers, demonstrate strong knowledge of production skills, communicate respectfully, and take responsibility for the success of their team.
I encourage you to speak with your child about whether this type of leadership opportunity is a good fit for them. Students should understand that being a Director is not simply a title or privilege; it comes with higher expectations for academics, behavior, professionalism, and commitment.
These leadership opportunities also support our broader CTE program requirements, including consortium participation through Student Television Network, career-readiness, and compliance expectations connected to maintaining and strengthening our media pathway. Providing students with authentic leadership experiences is an important part of demonstrating that our program is preparing students with meaningful technical and employability skills.
Thank you for supporting our students as they continue developing into confident, responsible, and capable young professionals.
Mr. K
