"Learning about the Blues"

(Grade 6 Talent 21 Technology Implementation / Infusion)

Objective - all 6th grade students work cooperatively in their General Music Class to learn about the African American Blues tradition and song style. Students in small teams compose the lyrics to their own original musical work and perform it for the class, thus learning basic song form and rhyme scheme, performance accompaniment, and African American history. Students brainstorm, create, and perform!

Here are all the items you will need for this musical journey where we study jazz / Blues music, songwriting, and implementing technology to create your original musical creations. During our Blues Unit, you will:

1) Analyze and perform a traditional Blues piece, learning it's form, rhyme scheme, and artist motivation
2) Cooperatively develop an original Blues lyric in a small group
3) Perform your work with your Blues group for the class
