                   ANDREW M. SEIGEL - Professional Profile                       

      
Andrew Seigel has held the position of music teacher with the Hamilton Township Public Schools since 1988. He has instructed students in grades 6 through 8 in General Music classes, brass, string, percussion, and woodwind instrumental lessons, vocal music lessons and directs the Concert Band, Show Choir, Jazz Band, and Percussion Ensemble. Mr. Seigel has designed department budgets, written curriculum, supervised and conducted performances, hosted visiting artists and workshops, and assisted with the architectural designs for new school facilities. He is an advisor to the National Junior Honor Society, Student Honors/Awards Committee, Graduation Committee, and has served as a member of both the Inter-District Curriculum Articulation Committee and the Technology Committee. Mr. Seigel has been the Chairperson of the Hamilton Twp. Governor's Teacher Recognition Committee since 1994 and also serves as AVA Coordinator for the Davies Middle School.
 

     Mr. Seigel has worked as an adjudicator for regional band and choir auditions since 1988, and has served on the Vocal Scholarship Board and Conductor Selection Committee for the South Jersey Choral Directors Association. Mr. Seigel assisted the Region III Band Directors Association as a percussive arts consultant with the selection of audition materials for regional auditions. Mr. Seigel served two terms as President of the Region III SJCDA and was an Executive Board member of the New Jersey Music Educators Association for 4 years. In 1992, he conducted a Multi-District In-Service Workshop on Orff and Kodaly music methods and techniques for band and choral directors. In 1994, he chaired the Inter-District In-Service Roundtable on Music Education. This was followed by the 1995 Inter-District In-Service, where he presented clinics on computer-based music technology in the classroom and instrumental techniques for the band director, and a workshop on Percussion Technique and Pedagogy at the 1996 Gloucester County Multi-District In-Service. Mr. Seigel presented a workshop in February 2001 at the NJ State Music Educators Conference on "survival skills" and classroom management for new teachers. Most recently, Mr. Seigel was appointed by the NJ Commission of Education to the Atlantic County Professional Development Board to evaluate professional development plans for the county school districts. He also presented an article in the June issue of the NJ State Music Educators' Association journal, Tempo, on state professional development standards and relevant activities for music educators. He has served on the Gloucester County Cultural & Heritage Commission Grant Committee since 2003 and on the NJ Department of Education Atlantic County Professional Development Board since 2001, having served as the latters chairman for 2007-2008.
Students of Mr. Seigel have achieved membership in the South Jersey Junior High Chorus, South Jersey Junior High Concert Band, New Jersey All-State Chorus, Rowan University Youth Orchestra, and Garden State Youth Pops Orchestra. The Davies School Choir has performed as an exhibition group for regional choral festivals, the March of Dimes telethon in Atlantic City, the N. J. State P.T.A. Convention, the annual Buddy Ball Charity Event, and opening ceremonies for the Atlantic City Convention Center. The Davies Concert Band and Choir compete at regional / state music festivals and perform concerts annually for the general public, including the Jersey Surf minor league baseball team in Atlantic City.
 

      Mr. Seigel has received over $16,000 in grants to bring music technology into the classroom by establishing a computerized music learning center at the Wm Davies School, implementing appropriate software and hardware synthesis systems for the creative production of original music. Most recently, this developed into a specialized program for gifted and talented students to explore music composition, studio recording techniques through computers and synthesizers, and Music Business applications. Most recently, Mr. Seigel has received over $8000 in grant funding (2002-2005) for a Latin Percussion Education project featuring world renowned Latin Jazz artist/educator Marlon Simon. Mr. Seigel has also acted as a consultant to aid fellow music educators with the effective implementation of music technology programs in their music curriculum and classrooms, as well as the cooperative design of music facilities and electronic music production/sound reinforcement systems.  In 2008, he was selected by his peers and the community as Wm. Davies School Teacher of the Year and was the district representative as County Teacher of the Year nominee.
 

      Mr. Seigel, a member of the USA/International Black Belt Hall of Fame and American Okinawan Karate Hall of Fame, is a certified martial arts instructor at the Modern Bujutsu Karate Center in Vineland, NJ, where he teaches children and adults American Goju Karate, kickboxing, and self-defense. He is the webmaster for the Modern Bujutsu Centers, having designed and maintained the website for the main school as well as the six satellite schools in New Jersey and Florida. His web design work has also extended to non-profit organizations. First established in 1998, the South Jersey Choral Directors Association website was Mr. Siegel’s’ first website. The site is referenced by hundreds of music teachers, parents, and music educators each year and continues to be a critical component serving music education in South Jersey.

In 2008, Mr. Seigel received the distinct honor of being selected as the William Davies Middle School Teacher of the Year and Hamilton Twp Public Schools Teacher of the Year.  He was subsequently chosen by a distinguished panel as the Atlantic County Teacher of the Year by the NJ Department of Education and represented Atlantic County as a candidate for New Jersey State Teacher of the Year.

Mr. Seigel is a devoted husband and father of two children, residing in Turnersville, New Jersey.
