7th Grade Math
Please have the following for class:
1 1/2 inch binder, loose leaf paper, dividers
Folder with pockets for signed tests, or other important information
SHARPENED PENCILS (at least 5) - at all times!
Pencil case with 3 holes to fit in binder for pencils, erasers, colored pencils or crayons, and highlighters
Large book cover or jumbo book sox
Calculators are provided to each student for use in class. If you would like to purchase one for home use they are available at the school store for $15.
Overview of Curriculum
Problem Solving, Order of Operations, Variables & Algebraic Expressions, Decimals, Fractions, Exponents and Scientific Notation, Graphs, Geometry, Ratio and Proportions, Percents, Integers, Probability, Area, Perimeter, and Volume
Assignments
Daily assignments are written on the ELMO or white board at the end of each lesson and the students are to copy them into their table of contents. Tests and projects are posted in advance.
The William Davies Middle School was fortunate enough to be awarded the TALENT 21 Grant. As part of the grant many classrooms were outfitted with state of the art classroom technologies, such as interactive boards and ELMO document projectors. This technology greatly enhances math instruction. In our classroom we use the Elmo daily. It is great to show calculator instruction, student work, examples from the textbooks, manipulatives, and more. Our students also visit the computer lab frequently to complete math projects using Geometer's Sketchpad and other programs related to mathematics. They explore mathematical concepts learned in the classroom. Using the computer lab relates math to the real world, creates visuals, and makes the students excited about math class.
