 ESL

William Davies Middle School runs a High Intensity ESL program, which consists of a push-in Language Arts period and a pull-out ESL period. All ESL students receive at least 40 minutes of ESL instruction every day. A second period of High Intensity ESL instruction is provided for those in need. This pull-out period provides instruction and support in each of the academic subjects as needed and also provides Instruction in expanding vocabulary, Reading, English, and Math. The students are screened at the beginning of the year or when they enter and evaluated individually to determine their needs. The ESL Program is conducted for all ESL and Spanish speaking students.  Our goal is to ensure that these kids will have enough language skills to function and learn in the mainstream classroom, but not at the cost of losing their cultural identity.
