Safe Zones

The Hess School is very conscientious of the seriousness of bullying and its effects on children.  In order to promote a bully free atmosphere in our school, we have taken measurable steps to combat its ill effects on the productive environment of our schools.   Since the onset of our anti-bullying program in 2003 we have continued to define and enhance our program and will continue to do so in order to provide our students with the best education possible.

In the 2005 – 2006 school year we have taken the following steps to improve our anti-bullying program.

  • Information about our Safe Zone Program has been added to our agenda book. In grades 3, 4 and 5 (see page 8).  A safe zone pass was given to each child including grade 2.
  • A letter was sent home in September to advise parents of our Safe Zone Program which included the names and room numbers of our Safe Zone Advisors.
  • An article was placed in October’s parent newsletter in reference to our Safe Zone Program.
  • Photographs of safe zone advisors were placed on the cafeteria walls so students can easily identify them in the event they need help in a bullying or teasing situation.
