Student Dress Standards

The School's purpose in establishing a dress standard is to promote a positive attitude about learning and about one's self-image, as well as to eliminate distractions to the educational process and maintain a safe, orderly learning climate.  Any changes to the dress policy will be sent home with all students.

1.       Pants, jeans, etc. must be worn appropriately.  In particular, pants may not be worn below a student's natural hip - undergarments must be fully covered.  Pants may not hang or drag on the floor. Ripped or torn pants are not permitted. OVERSIZED & UNDERSIZED PANTS THAT EXPOSE UNDERGARMENTS ARE NOT PERMITTED. LEGGINGS,  YOGA PANTS, AND THE LIKE ARE NOT PERMITTED.

2.       Oversized Jewelry, accessories, etc. which could be used as a weapon may not be worn.  This includes "wallet chains," spiked collars, and the like.

3.       Nothing that is made for outdoors or exercise may be worn on a student's head.  This includes sunglasses, hats, scarves, wave caps, bandannas, sweatbands, etc.  (Traditional barrettes, bows, etc. may be worn.)  Outerwear, such as vests, coats, jackets, gloves and garments with hoods, are not to be worn during the school day.  These items should be placed in lockers upon arrival at school.

4.       T-shirts must have slogans, pictures, etc. which are school appropriate.  Therefore, beer logos, foul language, drug references, sexual innuendoes, demonic messages, etc. are unacceptable.

ยท         EXCESSIVELY OVERSIZED T-SHIRTS (SHIRTS THAT EXTEND PAST THE THIGH) ARE NOT PERMITTED, AND ARE A VIOLATION OF THE DRESS CODE.

5.       Any clothing style which promotes, represents, or symbolizes a gang or gang mentality is strictly prohibited.

6.       Skirts, shorts, skorts and tops must properly cover a student's body:

a.)     Tops must fully cover the chest, shoulder and midriff area.  Tank tops and spaghetti straps are not permitted.  The length of dresses, skirts and shorts can be no higher than 4 inches from the top of the knee. Excessively tight clothing is not permitted.

b.)     Shorts are permitted as school attire from May 1st - September 30th.  Shorts must be school appropriate - i.e. biker/lycra shorts, cut-offs, short-shorts, hot pants, leggings, etc. are not permitted.

7.        Appropriate footwear must be worn, safety being the main concern.  Open toed shoes and shoes without a back are not permitted. This includes flip-flops, similar type sandals and the like.

Any other attire deemed unacceptable by the administration will be dealt with as necessary.

Consequences: Pupils unable to change into appropriate attire during the course of the school day will be placed in internal suspension for the remainder of the day, or until such time that appropriate attire is obtained.
